Cosgriff Scrip Fundraiser

What Is Scrip?

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”.  When you purchase scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials.  With every purchase you earn revenue for our school and parish.

Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything or buy something not needed. Families generate revenue for the school and parish by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, coffee, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

How scrip generates revenue for Cosgriff

Grocery will be purchased with cash up front from local retailers at a discount and resold at full face value.  The discount is revenue for the school.

Simmilarly, the school will work with Great Lakes Scrip Center who acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non‑profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from over 200 retailers.  Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Orders can be placed with Great Lakes Scrip Center and the discount is passed to the school.

How is scrip going to work at Cosgriff?

Gift cards for grocery, Starbucks and some additional retailers will be available for purchase every day before school and after school Fridays.  Grocery will include Dan’s, Fresh Market, Harmon’s and Smith’s.  The grocery scrip cards will be in $100 increments.  Starbucks will be available for $25.

Order forms for scrip through Great Lakes Scrip Center are due every Wednesday.  One group order will be placed weekly and ready for pick up the following week on Wednesday.  If preferred, scrip cards can be sent home with students on Wednesdays.  See attached schedule for exceptions due to holidays.

Gift certificates can also be purchased and later redeemed for any scrip.  Great gift for teachers!

Ordering options with Great Lakes Scrip Center

Order forms are available online at www.cosgriff.org/scrip, at the scrip table, and in the school office.  Simply complete the form and attached your check or cash.  Full payment is required when the order is placed.  Orders may be dropped off at the scrip table every day before school and after school on Fridays.  There will also be a secure drop off box in the office.  Please only include checks if dropping off in the box.

Great Lakes offers retailers not listed on the order form.  Please feel free to add in any retailer that is offered by Great Lakes.  This list is available online at www.cosgriff.org/scrip.  There is a “Write In” section at the bottom of the order form.  Indicate the retailer name, quantity, and card value you would like to purchase.

Scrip can only be purchased with Check or Cash

Merchant fees associated with accepting credit cards are too costly.  Check and cash are the only form of payment so that 100% of the proceeds can be kept by the school.  Make checks payable to “Cosgriff Scrip”.

Please note that any bank fees associated with a check returned for non-sufficient funds will be passed on to the issuer of the check.

How involved can I get with Scrip?

In addition to grocery, please order from Great Lakes Scrip Center.  There are retailers available that offer large percentages back to the school.  Some examples are as follows:

Lands End = 16%

Marriott Hotels = 8%

L.L. Bean = 15%

Pottery Barn = 8%

Payless Shoes = 13%

Blockbuster = 7%

Chili’s / Macaroni Grill = 11%

Office Max = 5%

Gap / Old Navy / Banana Republic = 9%

Home Depot = 4%

A full list of retailers is attached.

How much can you earn for Cosgriff?

If 150 families participate at $125 per week (the average weekly grocery cost for a family of four), the projected yearly revenue for Cosgriff will total $45,000.  Another example of how each individual family can earn money for Cosgriff is as follows:
