AchievementsStudents from 7th and 8th grade participated in the Salt Lake Valley Science and Engineering Fair on March 26, 2010. Click here to read a list of the winners. The 7th and 8th grade students also participated in the 2010 Diocesan Science Fair held at St. Francis Xavier on February 27, 2010. Click here to read a list of the students outstanding accomplishments at the fair. Mikaela Schmiett was awarded 1st place in the state for the Utah League of Cities and Towns “Why I like my Community” essay contest, 7th grade division. She Johnny Walz was awarded 1st place in the Igniting Creative Energy (ICE) essay contest. Igniting Creative Energy is a national student challenge to motivate learning, ignite the imagination and fuel the creative potential in youth. Johnny Walz, 3rd grade student, designed and created a game to conserve energy in the home. Johnny won 1st place in the statewide competition for his unique ideas of ways to save energy. Sante DiSera's poster entitled "Trees are terrific and energy-wise" was chosen from 36 entries in his own class and was sent off to compete against 3rd graders from across the state. He was awarded an honorable mention in the state poster contest for Utah Arbor Day for his very beautiful poster showing the benefits we receive from trees. Congratulations to Caroline Holyoak, the recipient of the Monsignor Vaughan Award. This is a full scholarship for a student entering the 8th grade who exhibits exemplary behavior in the areas of scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and cooperation. Greer Bleyl and Jack Shuckra were recently awarded the Light of Christ Religious Emblem from the Catholic Committee on Scouting. This emblem is given to second grate scouts who engage in several months of self study to develop and deepen their spiritual growth and advance their understanding in Catholicism. The Emblem was presented in Marchd uring a ceremony at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. |
