Principal's Letter

September 4, 2008

Dear Parents,

SAT testing will be the week of September 8-12.  Your child should eat a nutritious breakfast and be well rested.  Also, please make sure your child is on time each morning.  Thank you.

Please note the following:

  • A recess duty chaperone is needed to work at Cosgriff Mon-Thu from 11:45am – 12:50pm.  Please call the office if you are interested in this paid position.
  • STAR TUTORS NEEDED – STAR is a reading program that provides extra reading practice for students who might be struggling with their reading skills.  Volunteers are needed to give one ortwo hours each week to this important program.  Parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors of Cosgriff are asked to consider tutoring at Cosgriff.  Call Kristin Bonacci for September and October training dates and times (583-3449 or 486-3197).
  • Parent and Community Seminar – On Thursday, September 18th Holy Cross Ministries will host a parent and community seminar at Kearns-St. Ann School, 430 E. 2100 S. in Salt Lake City.  The event begins at 6:30pm and features Jodee Blanco, a nationally known anti-bullying activist and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir Please Stop Laughing at Me…and the newly released sequel Please Stop Laughing at Us…One Survivor’s Extraordinary Quest to Prevent School Bullying.  After the seminar, there will be a Q & A session and book signing.  This event is free and open to the public.  All community members, parents, and teachers are encouraged to attend.
  • The Innisbrook fundraising packet went home Friday, August 29.  If every student sells $75 in gifts/wrapping paper, Cosgriff will reach its goal of $25,000, which will help with school operating expenses and the new math program.  Make sure home addresses are listed for the people you’ve sold items to.
  • The elections were held for Student Leadership Council at Cosgriff.   Congratulations to the following students:

                    Alex Leopardi – President
                   Jenna Thompson – Vice President
                   Sierra Jensen – Secretary
                   William Cisneros – Treasurer
                   Robert Auer – Treasurer
                   Emmi Mancini – Public Relations
                   Serena Chavez – Public Relations
                   Hannah Harrington-Dunn – Historian
                   Taylor Aragon – Historian

  • Please join the Student Leadership Council and other students of Cosgriff in the September Community Service Project in support of the Odyssey House of Utah.
  • Picture day will be Monday, September 15.  Students may wear free dress, appropriate attire-no jeans.  Please turn in picture forms along with a check to the office on or before picture day.
  • There are three attachments to the Principal’s letter; the mandatory Asbestos letter that is sent out yearly to families, a school attendance letter, and a list of items the Odyssey House is in need of.  Please click here to read the attachments.

Thank you,

Betsy Hunt
Principal
