Principal's Letter

February 2, 2012

Dear Parents,
A word of appreciation to all parents, relatives and friends who visited Cosgriff during Catholic Schools’ Week.  The theme for the year, Faith.Academics.Service. , is a main focus for Cosgriff students as they concentrate on faith formation, high academic achievement, and continuous support for those in need.
Please read the following:

  • Fridge Calendar Review

February 2nd – student free dress with sale of 20 opportunity tickets
February 3rd – no school
February 5th – 5th grade class hosts 11:00am Mass
February 6th – H.S.A. meeting at 7:00pm
February 9th – progress reports

  • The Christian value students will learn more about in February is Love, the greatest of the theological virtues.  This virtue is the heading for friendliness, cooperation, generosity, kindness, courtesy, joyfulness and charity.  Please talk to your child about the many ways to share and express their love for family, friends, and those that need support.
  • The social skill students will learn and practice in February is Making an Apology.  This important social skill is always needed in life.  Please talk through the steps with your child and direct him/her to look someone in the eye when making an apology.  Click here to download a copy of the steps you can use to practice this skill.
  • February Service Project

The Student Council has chosen the Algalita Marine Research Foundation as a service project for February.  This foundation is dedicated to the protection of the marine environment and its watersheds through research, education and restoration.  This is done by research distribution, abundance and fate of marine plastic pollution, and learning the harmful effect of plastics in the marine environment as it relates to human health.

The Student Council will sponsor a few small fundraising activities this month to support this independent, non-profit organization.  Donations of any amount are welcome.

  • The 2012 Cosgriff Science Fair was held Tuesday, January 31st in the Social Hall.  Thank you to all the parents and friends of Cosgriff School who judged the 7th and 8th grade students “masterpieces”.  Each student worked countless hours to perfect their projects, and it showed in the results they presented Tuesday.

Also, a BIG thank you goes to Mr. Larson for his continued time, dedication and encouragement to all the students.  His enthusiasm and support for Science Fair is evident when you see his excitement around the students and their work.  Many of the judges commented that the quality of scientific ideas and work that was presented to them was unsurpassed by any other school they had judged at.  The following is a list of this year’s winners:
